National Workforce Policy Expert Nick Beadle to Keynote 2026 Healthcare Workforce Summit

Michigan Health Council is pleased to announce Nick Beadle as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Healthcare Workforce Summit: Building What’s Next.

Beadle will present “Healthcare Is Driving American Workforce Development. How Should Workforce Drive People to Healthcare?” Political leaders and policymakers often cite healthcare as one of the most innovative occupations in American workforce development. The field's shortages remain a key concern as much of the American population ages. Yet, policymakers have sometimes overlooked the sector when making funding decisions, and they remain limited in their understanding of how the field works and what it takes to bring more qualified workers into it. So what should they be doing, and how can we push leaders in the workforce and education to do better by healthcare workers and employers? 

Widely recognized as one of the country’s leading experts on workforce policy, Beadle writes the best-selling JOBS THAT WORK newsletter, which explores what is next in U.S. jobs policy and workforce funding. He also advises private funders, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations on developing innovative pathways that connect people with good jobs.

Before beginning his consulting work, Beadle spent 11 years at the U.S. Department of Labor, where he helped build innovative apprenticeship and funding initiatives designed to address emerging challenges in the American labor market. He concluded his federal service as chief of staff for workforce and communications for the Good Jobs Initiative, a cross-agency effort focused on improving employment outcomes through federally supported workforce programs and procurement projects. In this role, he oversaw the Department of Labor’s workforce development investments.

Beadle’s keynote will invite attendees to think beyond today’s workforce challenges and consider how policy, funding, education, and employer practices can work together to build stronger and more sustainable talent pathways. His experience connecting national workforce strategy with practical implementation will provide valuable insight as Michigan’s healthcare leaders consider what comes next—and how to turn ideas into action.
