Description
The Health Careers Pipeline Program (HCPP) is offered by the Mid-Central AHEC Regional Center. It a 9-week program for 9th and 10th grade students, to introduce and empower them to pursue careers in the health professions. High school students, who must be living in an underserved area, are paired with undergraduate mentors from CMU College of Medicine. Classes are prepared by medical school students with guidance of the program coordinator. Rotating between virtual and on-site meetings in the Grand Rapids area, students engage in a variety of activities, hear from speakers, and take part in simulations all planned by the medical students. The program exposes them to mentorship, health and wellness education, and a support system for their journey into post-secondary education. Ultimately, the purpose of HCPP is to turn high school participants into a homegrown workforce of diverse health care professionals.
