Detroit Wayne County Health Authority (Authority Health) currently receives funding from HRSA to run a three-year family medicine residency program. The primary goal of this program is to prepare board-certified family physicians who practice the full scope of patient-centered, evidence-based primary health care, to help meet the growing demand for primary care providers in Michigan. Significant time of each resident's experience is spent at federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs), community clinics and private practice offices. Family medicine residents also complete a two-year certificate program in Population Health and Equity from the Michigan Public Health Training Center. Graduates have been 100% successful in passing the specialty board examination in family medicine. Since FY2013, the family medicine residency program has received over $22 million in funding.
