Training current healthcare professionals in SDOH, implicit bias, or on other subjects that will help professionals provide more culturally-competent and/or patient-centered care
In 2020, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made an Executive Order that requires the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to develop rules to require implicit bias training for health care professionals as part of the knowledge and skills necessary for their work. This Executive Order (2020-7) was put into place as a response to data which supported that communities of color had higher mortality rates for COVID-19 compared to white patients. The goal of the Executive Order is to help healthcare professionals in Michigan provide more culturally-competent and patient-centered care.
