There is always news about projected shortages of doctors and nurses. But what about the workforce needs of the essential allied health occupations?
Using data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics job growth projections for 2020, the Michigan Health Council developed this set of data showing the anticipated needs for health care professionals of all types.
It is important to note that different data sources and methodologies result in a range of projections. What is more important than the absolute numbers is the relative trend showing larger than average growth in the smaller – but essential – fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and dental hygiene.
