Dear Colleague,
Thank you for attending the 2016 Michigan Nursing Summit: A Culture of Health. We are truly delighted you could join us for our largest nursing summit to date!
I serve as co-lead to the Michigan Nursing Action Coalition, alongside Cynthia Cameron of the Michigan Public Health Institute and Susan Moran of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The Action Coalition was established to advance the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the AARP Foundation. Therefore, we welcomed the opportunity to host a summit dedicated to promoting the Campaign for Action’s new emphasis on RWJF’s “Culture of Health” initiative.
So what exactly is a “Culture of Health”? According to RWJF, a Culture of Health is one in which:
Good health flourishes across geographic, demographic and social sectors
Attaining great health is not only possible, but valued by our entire society
A collaborative effort occurs between businesses, government, individuals, and organizations in order to build health communities
Social determinants of health are addressed so that everyone has access to affordable, quality health care because it is essential to maintain, or reclaim, health
The economy is less burdened by excessive and unwarranted health care spending
The purpose this summit is to increase understanding of factors that impact health beyond traditional delivery of care and to empower us to enact positive change for the health of our communities.
Our talented speakers will engage participants through lecture and discussion about opportunities to make a difference within Michigan communities. We hope to have created a context for cultivating impactful solutions by exploring diverse concepts, processes and tools from a variety of perspectives.
We hope you value your experience here as much as we value your attendance.
Sincerely,
Melanie Brim President and CEO
