Call for Speakers

Inspire the Next Generation of Behavioral Health Professionals

The Michigan Health Council invites healthcare organizations, educators, and community partners to participate in our upcoming Virtual Behavioral Health Career Day, which will take place this spring (date TBD). This free event will bring together high school students from across Michigan to explore meaningful and rewarding careers in the behavioral health field, such as psychology, counseling, and social work, with a special focus on school-based mental health roles.

Why Participate

Help students:

  • Understand the variety of careers that support mental health and well-being.

  • Discover how professionals make a difference in their communities every day.

  • Learn about education and training pathways into behavioral health professions.

  • Connect with local opportunities for job shadowing, mentorship, and more

  • Experience hands-on or interactive sessions that bring the work to life.

Presentation Opportunities

We’re seeking engaging, student-centered presentations or demonstrations from:

  • Behavioral health professionals (e.g., counselors, psychologists, therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, peer support specialists)

  • Colleges, universities, and training programs offering behavioral health degrees or certifications

  • Community organizations that provide mental health or substance use services

  • Healthcare systems that employ or support behavioral health professionals

 

Sessions may include:

  • Career spotlights or personal stories

  • Panel discussions with professionals or students in training

  • Skill demonstrations (e.g., mindfulness activities, coping strategies, communication exercises)

  • Interactive workshops or simulations

  • Resource tables for ongoing engagement

 

Session Guidelines

  • Audience: High school students (grades 9–12)

  • Format: 20–30 minute presentations, workshops, or demonstrations

  • Tone: Conversational, interactive, and age-appropriate

  • Goal: Inspire, educate, and connect
