Mini-Medical School Events
About
Mini-Medical School events make a lasting impression by bringing fun, health, wellness, and career-related activities to students grades K-6. Mini-Medical School events include experiential activities, content, and games that are designed to:
-
Teach students the importance of preventative medicine and a healthy lifestyle
-
Introduce students to healthcare career opportunities
-
Build student confidence and comfort with medical terms and instruments
-
Foster positive role models
During a Mini-Medical School event, students visit eight stations hosted or guided by various healthcare professionals like physicians, nurses, dietitians, and dentists. At these stations, students learn about the human body and how to stay healthy while exploring different healthcare careers and connecting with volunteer healthcare professionals.
Mini-Medical School events are now available in-person and virtually!
In-Person Mini-Medical School:
In-person Mini-Medical School events are all-day events hosted at the school. During the event, students tour around the Mini-Medical School stations, where they get to interact and learn from volunteer healthcare professionals.
Depending on the size of your school, grade levels offered, and school hours, a typical in-person schedule might look like this:
First Session | 9:00 am - 10:00 am Grade 1
Second Session | 10:00 am - 11:00 am Grade 2
Third Session | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Grade 3
Lunch Break
Fourth Session | 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Grade 4
Fifth Session | 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Grade 5 & 6
Virtual Mini-Medical School:
Virtual Mini-Medical School events enable students or classes to virtually “walk” and tour the Mini-Medical School classroom (think Google Earth in a school setting). Virtual Mini-Medical School offers educators the flexibility to complete their tour in one day or to cover the content over the course of a few days, incorporating it into their existing curriculum. Virtual Mini-Medical School ends with an optional 30-minute “Ask a Health Professional” talk where classes live chat with a volunteer healthcare professional. During the chat, students can ask questions about the volunteer’s healthcare career or follow-up questions about the concepts learned during Virtual Mini-Medical School.
