Welcome to the Michigan Center for Health Professions, located at the Michigan Health Council

The Michigan Center for Health Professions (MCHP) will focus on the critical issues of recruitment, education, and retention of health professionals. Our primary goal is to foster collaboration within the healthcare community to achieve policy consensus, promote workforce diversity, and assist in sustaining and enhancing Michigan's healthcare workforce.

The MCHP was established in 2005 with funding by the Michigan Department of Community Health to:
  • Bring together both state and national research on supply and demand, particularly the factors that drive possible changes in supply and demand
  • Refine the information already collected by working closely with leaders from the various health professions on our advisory board
  • Establish a media/communication link with the legislative and healthcare community to report healthcare workforce issues and information

Our Purpose

The Michigan Center for Health Professions purpose is to:
  1. Create an Advisory Board to coordinate activities around the issues of recruitment, education, and retention of health professions in Michigan.
  2. Serve as a primary resource for healthcare workforce information with an inventory of available data sources.
  3. Use the data sources to assist other organizations in the development of regional/state forecasts for supply, demand and vacancies of targeted health professions.
  4. Convene a Health Professions Roundtable to include all of the health professions. The roundtable gathers information, surfaces issues and trends, and functions as an interdisciplinary communication network.
  5. Convene a Dean's Council to discuss interdisciplinary health workforce issues.
