The Michigan Center for Health Professions was established in 2005 with funding by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). The challenge for the Center for Health Professions is to (a) bring together both state and national research on supply and demand, particularly the factors that drive possible changes in supply and demand, (b) refine the information already collected by working closely with leaders from the various health professions on our advisory board, and (c) establish a media/communication link with the legislative and healthcare community to report healthcare workforce issues and information.
1. Create an Advisory Board to coordinate activities around the issues of recruitment, education, and retention of health professions in Michigan.
2. The Center for Health Professions will be viewed as a primary resource for healthcare workforce information with an inventory of available data sources.
3. Use the data sources to assist other organizations in the development of regional/state forecasts for supply, demand and vacancies of targeted health professions.
4. Convene a Health Professions Roundtable to include all of the health professions. The roundtable would gather information, surface issues and trends and be an interdisciplinary communication network.
5. Convene a Dean's Council to discuss interdisciplinary health workforce issues.
